My Mom, age 91, has myriad health problems (mainly osteoarthritic pain, but a host of other issues) and four surviving children (five of us originally), but all of us living far away. Dad is also aging and declining, and home alone; he simply can’t care for Mom. When Mom was accepted at a local Hudson Valley nursing home, initially discharged there as a short-term rehab “patient” after hospitalization, then as a long-term “resident,” I thought my problems were over. But no, and many thanks to Charlotte for stepping in as Mom’s healthcare consultant and advocate.
With her vast experience in the medical field and her knowledge of local medical personnel and routines, Charlotte has been able to negotiate the maze of the nursing home: its regulations, its administration and its doctors and nurses. Charlotte has also been able and willing to “connect the dots” regarding my Mom’s medications, even obtaining Mom’s medical records from the hospital just prior to her discharge. And she has arranged with doctors outside of the nursing home to review Mom’s medications, and regimes for therapy. Charlotte has accomplished all of this with grace and tact. And, importantly to Mom and all of us in the family, Charlotte has become a friend and confidante of my Mom. I just can’t say what a load Charlotte has lifted from our shoulders and how fortunate Mom and her family are to have Charlotte as their healthcare consultant.

There is no question that Charlotte Michos is the “Best Health Care Consultant” in the Hudson Valley. As I reflect back on the past year I am forever grateful that my family accessed her services as a healthcare advocate. Charlotte is the utmost professional in her ability to organize, negotiate and manage complex medical and family dynamics. Her client, my Mom, spent the last year of her life free of emergency room visits and unnecessary diagnostic tests, enjoying a wonderful quality of life. Our family can’t thank Charlotte enough for her dependability and compassion. Due to Charlotte’s steadfast support, incredible wisdom, knowledge and insight she interpreted a confusing medical system for us so we could focus on family relationships. Being open to Charlotte's guidance allowed Mom to die with dignity, free of pain and on her own terms.

I had the pleasure of both working with Charlotte Michos and having her help me when my family was facing a crisis. Her expertise is unmatched and much needed as the baby boomers become the United States’ largest senior population. Her advocacy is invaluable to older people confronting the myriad of challenges that healthcare services and insurance will continue to create. She has the experience and resources to be able to guide you in the right direction, and save countless hours, days or weeks of frustration, or running around in circles. Seniors (people of any age, really) and their families are fortunate to be able to reach out to someone like Charlotte. I know I was.

Charlotte has been a lifesaver to me, and my family. When my husband ended up in a hospital ICU unit, the whole experience was very overwhelming. With my permission, she stepped up and took charge, helping create an organized approach to his care. In talking to the medical staff, she has the confidence and insight that they seemed to respect, and she was able to discuss my husband's medical condition and ask questions that I would never have thought of. Charlotte organized all the information and typed it up for me to have on hand, essentially creating a comprehensive medical file for us. Whenever I needed her, she was just a phone call away. And, the fact that she knows so many people in the medical field and has so many resources was a tremendous advantage. I will be forever grateful to her.

Charlotte is a good friend whom I have known for many years. She is the first person I thought of when I decided I needed help in sorting out the complexities of what my family and I were going through. She is a most capable advocate. Charlotte is quickly on the case, with keen awareness of what the entire family is dealing with, not just the client. Her understanding of medications is outstanding. She is organized, dependable, and able to deal with any problems that may arise, but Charlotte also has a lively personality and is supportive. I like that she remains calm in all situations. My family and I are most appreciative and would highly recommend her.

Charlotte’s presentations on Advance Care Planning to Hudson Valley senior groups have been well received because Charlotte has the ability to put the audience at ease about a “sensitive" subject. The discussions have been lively and interactive. She also provides easy-to-follow instructions and information about the process and the forms used for Advance Care Directives. Her clinical background and knowledge base equips the professional audience, as well.

In regard to my ongoing “challenge” to obtain my child’s medical records… I just wanted to let you know that my son’s medical records are finally ready for pick-up at the doctor’s office. I want to thank you. I know it was painless because of your drafted letter. I would not have had the right information to do that myself. Thank you again!”
